Accessing a computer at Gresham's' or Remoting In
Click on the REMOTE LOGIN > Remote Login link on the Staff/Student Portal page, to access the remote login page, (this will open in a separate window).

Please note: Remoting in to Gresham's' computers can only be done by Internet Explorer, other web browsers such as FireFox, will not work with our remoting system.

The remote access service has been assigned a security certificate details of which are displayed in the window below.
Presently this shows as an error but the system is still safe.
Ignore this by clicking on "Continue to this website (not recommended).".

The first time you use this service, IE will ask to install an ActiveX file.
The top of IE will display a message asking to install an ActiveX file.
Click OK and/or install to add the ActiveX file.
This is a small security mesure to clean your browser's cache/history when you log out.

The website will now ask for your login details. These are your normal school login details,
e.g. User Name: jrgray
Password: ####

Greshams domain login Senior domain login

then click "Login"

The resulting window now displays the remote access service.
Click on the computer icon labelled "Terminal Sevices (RDP) ActiveX".

Another window will open asking for the "IP address of the server" (shown below).
Enter the IP ADDRESS of the computer you wish to remote in to. This IP address is unique for the Gresham's computer you wish to use and would have been given to you by the ICT Technicians alternatively:
two library computers have been set-up for staff to remote in to, their IP addresses are;
10.20.5.166
10.20.5.167
Use only ONE of these if you have not been given an IP address by the ICT Technicians.

five computers have been set-up for students to remote into, their IP addresses are;
10.20.0.101
10.20.0.102

10.20.0.104
10.20.0.105
Use only ONE of these.

Change the "Desktop Size:" to Full Screen by clicking on the downwards arrow after "800 by 600 pixels".
(This is the window size that the Gresham's computer will be displayed in).

The resulting window will display the computer at Gresham's.
Any actions you perform in this window will be on the Gresham's computer NOT your home computer.
If you wish to move files from your home computer to Gresham's' system use FileSurfer instead.

Useage
The remote computer can be used as a normal computer.
All programmes that are normally run whilst you are at your Gresham's computer can be run whilst remoting in.
All printing on the remote computer will be printed to the remote computer's printer, not your printer at home.

LOGGING OFF
It is very important that you log off after each session.
Please note: there are two log off (logout) procedures.
This will correctly close the connection allowing other users to log on. It will also close the open link to the computer, stopping a hacker from entering into our system.

If you do not log off, the computer at Gresham's will become unusable, you and other staff will be unable to use this computer.

In the remote window (Gresham's computer), click over the Start icon, bottom left.
Two options, "Log off" and "Disconnect" are displayed. Click on the "Log Off" option to log out of the remote (Gresham's) computer.
The remote (Gresham's computer) window will close and leave the remote access service window seen previously.

In this window click on "Logout" to close the remote connection.

A small programme will now run that will clean the cache/history of your web browser for this remote session.
It will not remove any other cache data.
